"Family Hike" by Robert Bateman

For all of history, human beings have spent time out in nature, especially during their formative years. Recently, however, many young people do not spend time out of doors. They are busy inside staring at screens. According to research this is damaging to their bodies and their brains. An easy move to improving this situation would be for families to go for half day hikes each weekend. This would solve the unfortunate problem schools have with liability and transportation costs. It would also solve the evident problem of security. But most importantly, it is also fun.

This picture shows my family, with some changes, on a hike near one of our favourite places – a bigleaf maple five minutes' walk from our house.
